📌 Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland

Newbiggin Bay is arguably the northernmost of the “town” beaches which stretch north from Tynemouth. The southeast-facing, arc-shaped beach is afforded partial shelter from the minor headland of Newbiggin Point, and can be admired from a wide promenade if you don’t fancy getting sand in your shoes. As you gaze out over the North Sea, you’ll be sharing the view with two larger-than-life figures attached to the bouldery breakwater: this striking (in a storm, literally!) art installation was installed in 2007. Newbiggin town centre is close to the north end of the beach – along with the excellent Maritime Centre.
