The standing stones that make up Midmar Stone Circle are accompanied by dozens of other nearby stones – grave stones. The site of this recumbent stone circle – within the kirkyard of 18th century Midmar Church – is certainly unusual, but the circle pre-dates the granite building by nearly 4,000 years. A burial cairn probably used to be found at the same location but has been destroyed, perhaps as part of a “beautification” attempt by the church.
