📌 Echt, Aberdeenshire
★★

You’ll find Sunhoney Stone Circle in a clearing within a small circle of woodland, elevated by a few dozen metres from the surrounding Aberdeenshire countryside. The woodland is important – it has probably prevented the circle from being damaged by farming activity over the years, leaving a relatively undisturbed ancient site.. Like other nearby stone circles, Sunhoney is of the recumbent type – i.e. with a particularly massive stone lying on its side incorporated into the circle. This one is aligned with the direction of moonrise on certain days. There are traces of burial cairns within the ring.
