Scotland’s oldest public museum – the Hunterian Museum – is housed in various buildings on the University of Glasgow‘s Gilmorehill campus, not far from Kelvingrove Park, gallery and museum. The impressive collection is built upon that once belonging to founder Dr William Hunter, with excellent exhibitions ranging from the Antonine Wall through natural history to Glasgow Medicine and much, much more. Altogether it’s one of the city’s better museums, though probably with more interest for adults than children. There are several other museums which also fall under the umbrella of The Hunterian collections which we cover separately: the Hunterian Art Gallery & Mackintosh House, the Hunterian Zoology Museum, the Anatomy Museum and the Country Surgeon Micro Museum.
