πŸ“Œ Town in Tyne & Wear
β˜…β˜…

Whitley Bay is one of the most popular Tyneside coastal settlements, located at the northeastern end of the region’s metro system and close to the present-day Northumbrian border. Originally a coal mining town, it later found fortune as a Victorian seaside destination – and presumably also as a desirable commuter town for Newcastle. The bustling centre seems to be thriving and has – we think – a cool and cosmopolitan feel, while the all-important beach is an easy walk away down residential streets lined with handsome villas (predictably, many are hotels or guest houses). Non-locals wanting to try a selection of fairly high-end Geordie cuisine should book a table at the popular Hinnies restaurant on the seafront. If sand, shops and singin’ hinnies aren’t sufficient, Tynemouth lies close by to the south with its own broad appeal.
