Cullercoats Bay is the smallest of North Tyneside’s beaches, but in our opinion the most charming. Low cliffs studded with caves wrap around the crescent of sand with piers at either end; there’s hardly any sand above the high water mark so check the tide times before visiting. A natural arch marks the southern end of the beach, at which point Tynemouth Longsands begin. On the rim of the cliffs, Beverley Terrace has the requisite chain of ice cream, fish and chip shops to sate most appetites.
