Easily accessible from the centre of Selkirk, Haining Loch is the scenic jewel in the town’s crown, encircled by a good path. In amongst the mixed woodland there are some good views across the water to The Haining itself: a Palladian mansion once owned by the Pringle family but now managed by a charitable trust.

Wildlife: Grey squirrels, mallard ducks, great crested grebes, coots, moorhens, a nuthatch, other woodland birds. Dragonflies, butterflies.

Weather: Sunshine with thin clouds, light wind.
