Looking northwards from Glasgow, Dumgoyne is one of the most prominent bumps on the skyline. If you have a penchant for painful ascents, the first mile to Dumgoyne summit is for you. For hill baggers (or if you’re just looking for a longer walk), continue to Earl’s Seat on the Campsie Fells plateau beyond, with fabulous views north towards the Arrochar Alps, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs from the edge of the escarpment. Of course we couldn’t resist a tour and a dram of whisky on return at Glengoyne Distillery…

⬀ Tough | Clear paths, eroded and increasingly vertiginous around Dumgoyne, soggy towards Earl’s Seat. Still the odd snow patch on north facing slopes.

Wildlife: Kestrel hovering over Dumgoyne (on both occasions we’ve walked this route!).
Weather: Sunshine with some cloud building, fairly hazy. Temperature in low twenties.
