πŸ“Œ Tynemouth, Tyne & Wear

Also known as called King Edward’s Bay, Tynemouth Short Sands is the first (proper) Tyneside beach north of the River Tyne. As you might have guessed from the name, it isn’t as extensive as nearby Longsands, but the surrounding cliffs and townhouse terraces give it a sense of theatre that its neighbour lacks. There are a few rockpools at low tide, while at the top of the beach, Riley’s Fish Shack serves well-reviewed seafood with tables right on the sand. Short Sands is overlooked on the south side by Tynemouth Priory and Castle, which is also well worth visiting.
