📌 Sollas, North Uist
★★★★

Tràigh Iar is probably our pick for the finest beach on North Uist – among pretty stiff competition – and at a mile from the nearest road, it’s never busy. The crescent bay forms the west side of the Àird a’ Mhòrain peninsula, with tall dunes and scrubby fields separating Tràigh Ear on the east side. The nearest place to park is next to the vast estuary of the Abhainn Ceann a’ Bhaigh which has its own beach – Tràigh Bhàlaigh – but this isn’t a patch on Tràigh Iar. Alternatively, park at Tràigh Ear and visit both beaches as part of a circular walk.
