Tain is an historic town just off the A9 on the south side of the Dornoch Firth. It’s the oldest Royal Burgh in Scotland, given a Royal Charter in 1066, with a number of grand old buildings evidence for its former status. These days the ring road keeps most traffic away, and most passers-by are more interested in nearby Glenmorangie Distillery.
