Strome Castle once used to guard the narrows of Loch Carron; from the rocky promontory on which it sits, there are grand views of the surrounding hills and water, and out westward to the Isle of Skye on a clear day. This 14th century tower house had numerous owners – latterly the Macdonalds of Glengarry – but met its demise in 1602 when it was blown up by the rival Mackenzies of Kintail. Only a few sections of wall and windows remain, but the setting is as beautiful as ever.
