📌 Landscape art in Cramlington, Northumberland
★★★
This new country park on the edge of Cramlington in northeast England was designed by a landscape architect whose name will be familiar to many Scots; Charles Jencks also created Jupiter Artland and several other Scottish landforms. Paths curve gracefully up to the top of several mounds, which when viewed from above (or from the approach path) resemble a reclining female figure: the “Lady of the North”. The land has been redeveloped in tandem with the planned restoration of an adjacent open cast coal mine, which can be seen from the high point of the sculpture (the figure’s forehead). In fact, owing to the flat surrounding landscape, there are good views in all directions.
