πŸ“Œ Dingwall, Highland

This imposing, 100-foot tower stands proud on a bluff above Dingwall town centre, surrounded by cannons and a spacious cemetery. It’s dedicated to Victorian soldier Hector MacDonald, known locally as Fighting Mac. As of 2026 visitors can once again enjoy a superb parapet panorama across the Cromarty Firth from the top (not shown in photos here, due to the interior being closed on our visit). If climbing dozens of stairs sounds too much, there’s also a reasonable town view from the outside of one of the hairpin bends on approach to the monument.
