πŸ“Œ Tighnabruaich, Argyll & Bute
β˜…β˜…β˜…

The Kyles of Bute are the narrow channel of water separating the Isle of Bute from mainland Argyll. Barely a mile wide but perhaps 20 miles in length, this is one of the most scenic stretches of coastline on the western seaboard – yet rarely visited by tourists. Tighnabruaich and neighbouring Kames are the largest settlements on the mainland side, and it’s the road between here and Colintraive (from where a ferry to Bute departs) which provides the best vistas of the strait, unless you charter a boat or hike the Cowal Way along the shore. Forestry makes suitable viewpoints surprisingly scarce, and the fast, winding road makes stopping at sudden laybys difficult; if possible, travel from east to west so you’re on the coast side of the road. The location details below describe the best photo spot.
