Elgin Museum is Scotland’s oldest (continuously…) independent museum, and would make an ideal starting point to any day out in Elgin – though it doesn’t open until after lunch. The collection is a broad one, ranging from 450 million-year-old fossilised fish to archaeology, artwork and Victoriana. There are extensive local history displays, but other items come from all over the world, including a 15th century Peruvian mummy and musical instruments from Africa and Asia.
