📌 Douglas, South Lanarkshire

With the fascinating St Bride’s Church, attractive loch and fragments of a once grand castle, there’s lots to see around the village of Douglas, South Lanarkshire. Find out all about it first at the worthwhile heritage centre, which covers topics including the Black and Red Douglases, Cameronian rifle regiment, Queen Elizabeth II coronation memorabilia and plenty of black and white photos showing the village in times of old. The building itself is interesting too: it started out as the Dower House for nearby Douglas Castle before assuming successive roles as the parish school, poor house, dwelling houses and eventually an Episcopal chapel – the stained glass windows are still intact and viewable.
