📌 Stenness, Orkney Mainland

The Barnhouse Stone is rarely visited by visitors to Orkney, but you are likely to travel past it on the way to more famous sites such as Maeshowe and the Ring of Brodgar. The lichen-encrusted, 10-foot tall monolith is ingeniously aligned with both of these: the stone lines up directly with Maeshowe’s entrance passage, and the stone also forms the end of a line to the Ring of Brodgar, with the Watch Stone in the middle.
