The 138 metre-tall Baltic Flour Mills have been a prominent fixture on the south bank of the River Tyne since the 1940s. The mill ceased production after a fire in 1976 but is now home to Tyneside’s foremost contemporary art gallery, and is one of the cornerstones of the waterfront’s regeneration since the 1990s. There are eight floors with frequently-changing exhibitions taking up around half the space; the photos below were taken on a September 2023 visit. Elsewhere in the cavernous building there’s a rooftop restaurant, indoor and outdoor viewpoints, a library and various educational and events spaces.
