The little hill of Torr Alvie is crowned with two stone monuments: the Waterloo Cairn – in memory of the local soldiers who died at the Battle of Waterloo – and the Duke of Gordon Monument, commemorating the last duke. The summit’s position in the middle of Strathspey and set apart from other hills means that both monoliths command excellent views; the former overlooking the high Cairngorms to the southeast, and the latter facing north down the strath towards Aviemore. Dalraddy Holiday Park at the start has an array of adventure activities (in fact, be careful of Segways and quad bikes while out walking!) and a couple of food stalls in high season.
