π Blackwaterfoot, Isle of Arran

The Doon is an impressive sight to the north of Drumadoon Point – a flat-topped fort next to Arran’s southwesternmost headland. Although the summit is overgrown with bracken in summer, there are excellent views in all directions if you can make it to the heathery high points, as well as a couple of old standing stones. Even more interesting is the walk underneath the west side, with imposing columnar basalt cliffs to gaze up at (while keeping an eye on the uneven path!), and a traverse of one of the island’s better beaches to reach it.
