📌 Newtonmore, Highland
★★★★

Where is the true heart of Scotland? Despite competing claims from Schiehallion, the centre of the country (when including the islands) is pinpointed by the Ordnance Survey and many old travel books as Glen Truim in the Cairngorms National Park – a feeder valley for more famous Strathspey. And the region could hardly be a better poster boy for Scotland’s allure: mighty hills, powerful rivers, verdant straths and rich wildlife. This short out-and-back walk leads to the picture-perfect viewpoint of Creagan an Fhithich above the confluence of the Truim and Spey rivers, with stunning views across the Cairngorms and Monadhliath Mountains.
