Take a stroll southwest from the roadside settlement of Lauder to explore the quiet valley of the Lauder Burn. All being well, the single unbridged crossing of the burn should be straightforward enough (local diversions are available), before a path ascends to a cairn on Chester Hill with excellent views over town and country. Chester Hill is the site of an ancient hill fort, though nowadays stray golf balls are more likely to be a hazard than marauding armies.
