Grimsay is a tiny island in the midst of the Western Isles chain, but it’s not as as isolated as you might think. Some of the very fastest fibre broadband connections in the UK can be found here (as of 2019), which is good news for local businesses such as Uist Wool. 6 staff convert local fleeces into yarns and other products; as well as visit the well-stocked shop, you can watch staff at work in the mill through a viewing window, and at certain times (possibly by arrangement) you can tour the mill itself. Our star rating refers to the former – we haven’t been on the tour.
