📌 Old Town, City of Edinburgh
★★

Scores of attractions compete for the attention of visitors along Scotland’s most touristy street: the Royal Mile in Edinburgh‘s Old Town. Lost among the bigger sights is an old, small sign pointing down an old close to The Writers’ Museum: unusually for this part of town, it’s free to visit and rarely too crowded. The smallish museum is devoted to three famous Scottish writers: Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. In truth, the exhibits are only of moderate interest, but worth a brief visit nevertheless. And the building they’re kept in is interesting too: Lady Stair’s House is a well-kept, 17th century townhouse just off a hideaway courtyard.
