πŸ“Œ Heritage railway & museum in North Shields, Tyne & Wear
β˜…β˜…β˜…

An industrial quarter of North Shields is the unglamorous location for Stephenson Steam Railway – but it has history. North Tyneside was home to George and Robert Stephenson – two pioneering minds in the development of railways. Steam and diesel locomotives (depending on the day) shuttle back and forth along a 2-mile stretch of track, which looks nondescript but had former fame as the test track for the Tyne and Wear Metro. The other half of the attraction takes the form of an excellent and curiously-little-known railway museum, featuring Billy – the world’s third oldest steam locomotive – among several other engines and carriages.
