πŸ“Œ Village in Fife
β˜…β˜…β˜…

Named after a 9th century saint, St Monans is typical of the East Neuk fishing villages in this part of Fife. Historic harbour, red-tiled cottages, steep and narrow lanes – and beautiful views across the water at the point where the Firth of Forth fully opens out into the North Sea. Although it can still get fairly busy on summer weekends, St Monans perhaps doesn’t attract the crowds in the same way as nearby Anstruther – which is definitely a good thing from our perspective. Walking a short distance west or east along the coast leads to a couple of local sights: ruined Newark Castle and an 18th century windmill respectively. For a longer ramble, why not continue further towards Pittenweem?
