📌 Crosskirk, Highland

This little church by the Caithness coast mightn’t look like much, but it’s one of the region’s oldest. St Mary’s Chapel is thought to date to the 12th century, with architectural features in common with places of worship on Orkney, in Scandinavia and in Ireland rather than the Scottish mainland. The setting overlooking Hoy and the North Atlantic is a fine one, as long as you overlook the wind turbines on the inland side.
