📌 Southend, Argyll & Bute
★★

Footprints carved into rock, and a tiny spring / well backed by gorse: these two blink-and-you’d-miss-them spots at the southern tip of Kintyre are afforded a degree of fame by possible links to a famous saint. Columba – who established the famous monastery on Iona – arrived on this peninsula in 563AD, and the prints and well could date to this period. Or perhaps not (evidence is far from conclusive). Sceptics can visit the nearby Keil Caves and Dunaverty Bay for added interest, adding up to an interesting few hours’ exploration between them all.
