πŸ“Œ Campbeltown, Argyll & Bute

Visiting Campbeltown and Kintyre? A trip to Springbank Distillery is unmissable, even if you’re not a whisky fan. This is Scotland’s oldest independent, family-owned distillery, and equally impressively, it’s completely self-contained: every stage of the whisky making process from barley floor malting to bottling happens on site. The distillery’s story spans two centuries (from 1828) but it hasn’t all been plain sailing; there have been several intermittent closures as demand for this region’s spirit has waxed and waned. Production most recently resumed in 2009, and is (at the time of writing) one of three open whisky distilleries in town.
