📌 Kirkoswald, South Ayrshire
★★

This unassuming thatched cottage on the busy road through Kirkoswald village is the former home and workshop of cobbler (souter) John Davidson, who lived here in the late 18th century. He provided the inspiration for Souter Johnnie, a character in Robert Burns’ Tam o’ Shanter. The inside of the building has partly been converted to an art gallery, with models of Souter Johnnie and other characters in a garden outhouse.
