📌 Old Town, City of Edinburgh
★★★★

The Scotch Whisky Experience is the closest you can get to visiting a whisky distillery without leaving the centre of the capital. We admit that we were originally a bit sceptical – surely a whisky attraction without a distillery is a bit like a restaurant which doesn’t serve food? But in truth, this is an excellent and surprisingly interactive introduction to Scotland’s national drink, particularly suited to those who haven’t visited a distillery before. There’s a full array of tour types – ranging from moderately costly to eye-wateringly so – depending on your preference, but all include an entertaining “ride” in replica barrels and the world’s largest whisky collection among the highlights. Oh, and a tutored tasting of at least one whisky, of course.
