πŸ“Œ Durness, Highland
β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Whatever the village of Durness may have used to lack in facilities, it has always more than made up for in natural beauty. The region’s coastline is pockmarked by a series of sandy beaches – stunning even (as in the photo above) at 9pm on a grey evening in April! Sango Sands is close to the village “centre” and quite popular in high season, boosted by a new (admittedly, extremely well placed) viewpoint which seems to be drawing Instagrammers in their thousands. If you’re seeking peace and quiet, it’s worth knowing that there are really three beaches divided by minor headlands, with the middle one directly behind the car park (guess which one ends up being the busiest). And for the record, Durness has developed rapidly over the last decade to serve the ever-increasing stream of tourists driving the North Coast 500, so it’s no longer quite the remote backwater it once was.
