📌 Heritage railway in Milton of Crathes, Aberdeenshire
★★★

The Royal Deeside Railway is a short heritage railway running along the River Dee at Milton of Crathes, a few miles downstream from Banchory and close to Crathes Castle. Steam and diesel trains operate mostly at peak weekends, harking back to an era when this stretch of track was part of the much longer line between Aberdeen and Ballater – frequently used by the Royal Family on trips to Balmoral Castle. There are long term plans to extend the line as far as Banchory, and perhaps even to Aberdeen itself one day.
