Rosemarkie doesn’t even come close to being the largest settlement on the Black Isle – even neighbouring Fortrose is much bigger. But we think it’s probably the best looking village on the peninsula, with apologies to almost-as-lovely Cromarty. This well-kept fishing settlement has a particularly attractive High Street (it’s easy to forget that it’s an A-road), beach with an outlook across the Moray Firth, local museum and excellent nearby walks; in short, there’s all you could hope for from a village of this size. The UK’s best location for sighting dolphins from land – Chanonry Point – is a mile south around the coast.

🚶 The village is tiny, with the beach easily accessible. See below for local walks, some of which start from the centre. Walking along the coast to Chanonry Point is eminently feasible.
