Provan Hall is a rarity in a city which today generally lacks medieval buildings. This fortified country residence may be the oldest house in Glasgow (despite competing claims, notably from Provand’s Lordship), dating from sometime during the 15th century, when it was built as a hunting lodge for the city bishops. Happily, tours are now available again as of 2025 after a long period of closure. The building now sits awkwardly close to the gleaming, metallic Glasgow Fort Shopping Centre, but means it’s well located to combine with lunch out or some retail therapy. The small but attractive Auchinlea Park (with pond) also provides a degree of separation between the two, and is worth a wander around too.
