π Town in Perth & Kinross

Pitlochry has been a popular tourist destination since Victorian times, and it’s easy to see why. The few thousand permanent residents enjoy a superb setting next to the River Tummel, overlooked by the majestic summit of Ben Vrackie. The town is situated at the heart of verdant Perthshire: a region famed for foaming rivers, iconic Scottish wildlife and spectacular autumn colours. The A9 road and Highland Main Line railway make access straightforward, and once you’re installed in one of the many hotels or guest houses there’s plenty to do locally for fans of things beginning with W (walks, waterfalls, woodland and whisky, if you’re wondering). See below for a few suggestions. The lion’s share of shops and services lie on the busy Atholl Road, including a useful string of outdoor shops and several hotels and eateries – some rather overpriced.
