📌 Newhaven, City of Edinburgh
★★

Newhaven is a real surprise on Edinburgh‘s mainly industrial urban coastline. This sheltered alcove houses a number of pleasure craft, overlooked by an attractive lighthouse which is nicely illuminated at night. Several restaurants – to suit all budgets and tastes – occupy the old fish market on the east side, and there are good views from the breakwater across the Firth of Forth towards the Kingdom of Fife. Newhaven’s slightly out-of-the-way location might change with the northern extension of the Edinburgh tram line, as it now appears on the tram map seen by thousands of tourists transiting out of Edinburgh Airport – even if travel time from the city centre to the harbour by public transport won’t actually change much.
