πŸ“Œ Montrose, Angus
β˜…β˜…β˜…

In February 1913, the UK’s first operational military air station was established on the outskirts of Montrose. Today, the town’s links to aviation continue with its interesting heritage centre, housed partly in unaltered hangars dating back to 1913. The site is extensive, spreading across several separate buildings. Aircraft in the pre-WWI “Burke” sheds include a 1980 Panavia Tornado, a 1974 SEPECAT Jaguar and a 1954 Hawker Hunter; there are also extensive displays about wartime aviation and rooms mocked up to resemble a Station Commander’s office, an Air Transport Auxiliary Pilot woman’s bedroom and a 1940’s home.
