📌 Kielder Forest Park, Northumberland

Kielder Water is a vast reservoir close to the Scottish Border in northeast England. With a volume of 200 billion litres, it’s the UK’s largest artificial water body, and also forms the heart of Kielder Forest Park: England’s largest manmade woodland. Despite the remote location, the shores are a popular summer tourist destination with watersports, a web of seasonal passenger ferries and a well-developed network of mountain bike trails. There are three “hubs” – Kielder at the head of the loch, Falstone near the dam, and Leaplish roughly midway between the two – each with food and drink options and various other facilities. The Lakeside Way hiking and biking trail offers excellent views of the reservoir from all angles, though at 27 miles in length, it shouldn’t be taken lightly!
