Walkers on the Kintyre Way west of Southend can’t fail to notice a series of largish caves in the cliffs on the inland side of the road. They’re also very close to St Columba’s footprints and well, and can be easily combined in the same visit. The caves aren’t particularly deep and exploring them all will only take a matter of minutes, but they’ve been inhabited intermittently from prehistoric times until as recently as the late 19th century.
