In 1857, mill owner James Couper asked local architect Alexander “Greek” Thomson to design a new house for him nearby his business on the White Cart Water in Glasgow Southside. Today Thomson is considered one of the city’s most famous architects, and Holmwood House one of his masterpieces – now under National Trust for Scotland stewardship. There are some attractive grounds too, though nearby Linn Park is a better option for a longer stroll.
