📌 Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire
★★

Climbing northwest away from the southern Aberdeenshire coastline, the B9120 eventually gains the head of a pass across the Hill of Garvock ridge. Pull off into the car park on the inside of the bend to enjoy the superb vista across the fertile Howe of the Mearns: the belt of agricultural land between this hill chain and the Cairngorms, which are also well seen. This is a large portion of the region beloved and often described by early 20th century writer Grassic Gibbon, who spent his childhood years in nearby Arbuthnott, and it doesn’t appear to have changed much.
