Grantown-on-Spey makes a quieter, more refined alternative to Aviemore as a base for exploring the northern part of the Cairngorms National Park. Set back from the River Spey, the town nestles amongst splendid Cairngorms scenery rich in wildlife: red squirrels, pine martens, capercaillie, red deer and mountain hare can all be found in the pinewoods and rolling hills surrounding the town – and ospreys during the summer months at nearby Loch Garten.
