The peaceful village of Athelstaneford in East Lothian is famous for the first sighting of the Saltire – Scotland’s national flag – in 832 AD. The doocot / dovecot (once used to keep pigeons for food) is as humble a venue as the village itself, but conceals an unexpectedly high-tech audio-visual dramatisation within, portraying the local battle in which the Saltire first appeared.
