πŸ“Œ Landscape art near Kingseat, Fife
β˜…β˜…

If you frequently drive north on the M90 beyond Dunfermline, you might recall an unusually-shaped hillock off to the left hand side of the roadway. This artificial mound is a focal point of the ambitious but incomplete Fife Earth Project: a 2009 vision to transform an open cast coal mine into landscape art. Charles Jencks (whose other works include Jupiter Artland and Crawick Multiverse) was commissioned as the artist, and work was well underway before landowners Scottish Coal ran out of cash and the project was halted. In its unfinished state, members of the public are free to wander around the various mounds (stick to the paths – an abandoned mine has obvious potential dangers) and wonder at what has been created, what came before and what might have been. There is very limited parking indeed; if the spot detailed below is full, consider walking from Kingseat village as part of our walk route.
