π Red Cuillin, Isle of Skye

Eas a’ Bhradain is one of the most obvious roadside photo stops between Portree and Skye Bridge, on the outside of a bend on the A87 as it contours through the Red Cuillin hills. It thus gets pretty popular – especially during the mid-morning tourist rush hour onto the island – but there is a sizeable layby which usually copes well. Waterfall, sea lochs and distant craggy peaks: it’s quintessentially Skye, and if you venture to the very foot of the falls, you can add boggy ground to the list – another typical characteristic. Keep to the right bank when heading up for the finest close-up viewpoint. Best seen after heavy rain.
