📌 Bardon Mill, Northumberland

Built in the 19th century, Crindledykes Limekiln once converted locally-quarried limestone into quicklime – one of around 400 similar buildings across Northumberland at that time. Quicklime was used to improve soils for farming and in mortar for building projects. The kilns are only a mile from Vindolanda Roman Fort, and worth a quick photo stop if exploring this part of Hadrian’s Wall country.
