๐Ÿ“Œ Lerwick, Shetland Mainland
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

Clickimin Broch is the least easily reached of Lerwick‘s town sights, requiring a mile’s walk (or bus ride) from the centre and harbour. It’s well worth the trip, for it’s not every day that you can visit such a remarkably preserved, 3,000 year-old site of human occupation. The place is a complex one, set on a promontory jutting out into the Loch of Clickimin; there is a bronze age house with outbuildings, along with an iron age broch, blockhouse, wheelhouse, causeway (this submerged by a later raising of the loch level) and further enclosed site – all constructed at different points over a period of 1,500 years or more. In some ways, Clickimin is comparable to the wonderful Jarlshof except on a smaller scale – and it’s also completely free to visit.
