๐Ÿ“Œ Lerwick, Shetland Mainland
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

Clickimin Broch boasts a striking location on a promontory jutting out into the Loch of Clickimin, a mile from Lerwick town centre. It’s not every day that you can visit such a remarkably preserved, 3,000 year-old site of human occupation – and certainly not one this accessible. The broch itself catches the eye, but the site also incorporates a bronze age house with outbuildings, blockhouse, wheelhouse, causeway (this made less obvious by a later lowering of the loch level) and further enclosed site – all constructed at different points over a period of 1,500 years or more. There are definite similarities with the wonderful, larger Jarlshof at Sumburgh, except this one is completely free to visit.
